Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the interview process so complicated?

I agree, the interview process is not easy and some companies make it even more complicated. However if we want the job we need to dress up with patience and complete all the steps. This might mean we repeat ourselves, duplicate efforts all with the goal of landing the interview. Some companies, depending on the role can have from 1 to 6 interviews. Some can be done in one day, or spread out during two weeks. Some might require in person, phone, video or done over a lunch.  For this reason, we need to be flexible and confident regardless of which format is selected.

What is the appropriate dress code?

We should always dress professionally for an interview, but not every job requires a suit and tie. So here are a few tips:

  • Always dress to impress,  first impressions matter!

  • Look up the interviewer's profile on LinkedIn, how is he or she dressed?  You should mimic their appearance!

  • Research the company culture, their dress code. This will help you be more at ease knowing what to expect prior to your interview.

Why don't recruiters  or hiring managers email updates or decisions?

In a perfect world we would receive a response regardless of outcome with every interview. However this seems to fail many times. This can be due to the amount of applicants going through the process. Being that we will not always receive a response, its OK for the applicant to follow up with status.  One thing to keep in mind is that even though this might be frustrating, your interactions regardless if in person,  phone or email must always be professional.  Keep in mind that if you make a good impression even if you don't get this job, they might call you back or invite you to apply to another role.  Therefore always be professional!
